Privacy Policy
1. Overview
Somatic is built to be fully private. We do not operate servers, do not create user accounts, and do not transmit any information about you or your workouts anywhere. All data is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's on-device database framework.
2. Data stored on your device
Somatic stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Workout sessions, exercises, sets, weights, distances, and durations
- Session templates you create or import
- Your profile (optional name, photo, and training preferences)
- App settings and preferences
This data never leaves your device except when you explicitly choose to share it — for example, exporting a workout template via iMessage or AirDrop. In that case, only the specific template you export is shared. Nothing else is transmitted.
3. Health & fitness data (HealthKit)
Somatic requests access to Apple Health to:
- Read your heart rate during active workouts, to display live BPM and session stats
- Write completed workouts to your Apple Health history so they appear in the Fitness app
All HealthKit access is governed by Apple's HealthKit privacy rules. Somatic never reads or writes HealthKit data for advertising purposes, and HealthKit data is never shared with third parties, uploaded to servers, or used for any purpose other than displaying information to you within the app.
You can revoke HealthKit access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
4. Location data
Somatic requests access to your location (while the app is in use) during outdoor cardio sessions — running, walking, cycling, or hiking. Location is used solely to calculate distance, pace, and route. GPS coordinates are stored on your device as part of your session history and are never transmitted off your device.
You can revoke location access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Somatic.
5. Photos
If you choose to add a profile photo, the image is stored locally on your device. It is never uploaded or shared.
6. On-device AI
Somatic uses Apple's on-device AI framework to generate personalized workout suggestions. All AI processing happens entirely on your device. No workout data, preferences, or personal information is sent to any AI service or external server.
7. Notifications
Somatic uses local notifications — for example, rest timer alerts. These are generated on your device and never involve sending data to a server.
8. Third-party services
Somatic does not integrate any analytics services, advertising SDKs, crash-reporting services, or other third-party data processors. The only external frameworks used are Apple's own: HealthKit, CoreLocation, ActivityKit, and Apple Intelligence.
9. Workout template sharing
When you share a workout template via the share sheet, the template may be shared as a link (ruckuslabs.co/somatic/template). The full workout data — exercises, weights, and sets — is encoded in the URL fragment and is never transmitted to or stored on our servers. It exists only within the link itself and is decoded entirely on the recipient's device. Only non-sensitive display metadata (session title, workout type, and exercise count) may be visible to the web server that serves the fallback page for users who don't have the app installed.
10. Data retention and deletion
All data is stored on your device. To delete all your Somatic data, delete the app from your iPhone. Data written to Apple Health must be deleted separately through the Health app.
11. Children's privacy
Somatic does not collect personal information from any user, including children. Since no data is transmitted off your device, there is no personal information for us to collect or retain. Somatic is not directed at children under 13.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
